I turned 40 today. And, for as depressed as I always thought I’d be when this day came, I couldn’t be happier. Truly. I’m 40 and I feel great. Here are my reasons why:
- I have more self-confidence than ever before. (But, does this blog make my butt look big?)
- I’ve become an emotionally and mentally stronger person as I’ve gotten older. I’m not easily intimidated by others. In my younger years, I avoided confrontation. I don’t go seeking it out now, but I’m not afraid of it either.
- I finished P90X this past week and I’m physically in the best shape I’ve been in since before having kids. It’s an empowering feeling, and I have a really big sense of accomplishment about the entire thing. So, watch out or I’ll kick your ass [a little bit].
- I see nothing but tremendous opportunity with my business and my professional life. I love working for myself and I won’t have it any other way.
- I know myself and have accepted who I am. I know I need 8 hours of sleep or I turn into a witch. I know that I NEED time to myself or I become a crazy person. I know my boobs and butt will never as firm as I would like them to be. I know that as much as I wish I did, I don’t like to eat zucchini. These things may seem insignificant, but they’re not. Knowing these things helps you shortcut a lot of life’s crap.
- I know that my childbearing years are over, so now my super-frickin’-awesome husband and I can focus on our kids and all of the fun things that we can do as they get older.
- I have kinda, sorta, maybe have learned to say ‘no’.
- I have shed the minivan. Yes, the day has come. Last week I replaced my Honda Odyssey (which was my 4th minivan) with a Ford Flex. Call it mid-life crisis; call it moving on. Whatever you call it, that car rocks and I love it
- I can still go out and have a great time, as evidenced by all of my birthday celebrations over the last 2.5 weeks (and the several vodka-sodas with a splash of grapefruit that helped lube the way)
- I can still breakdance. I’m not kidding.

Just hit 4-0 this past weekend and while surrounded by friends, out-of-town guests & surprise family visitors I realized that I am exactly where I want to be and it brought great peace. That and a delicious Patron, grapefruit, pomegranate limade helped lube my way! It was at this shindig when someone told me about your blog – it’s great!

I suppose the key to feeling comfortable with your age is making sure you have done lots of things that you planned in your youth. I started going grey at the age of 26. Which took be by surprise!
