I would say that, on average, 80%-90% of my daily mail from the USPS is complete junk – catalogs, offer postcards, etc – all sorts of paper crap I did not ask to receive. I knew that sites existed where you could go sign up to no longer receive junkmail, but I’ve never signed up. Bein’ Earth Month and all, I decided now is as good a time as any to stop the never ending barrage of useless, unsolicited and unwanted mail.
The Daily Green, my favorite ‘green’ site, had this to say about junk mail:
Around 100 million trees and 28 billion gallons of water are used to send junk mail to Americans every year… You can stop 75% of unsolicited mail by registering on the Mail Preference Service on the Direct Marketing Association website (for a fee of $1). Within 90 days, most unsolicited mail will stop.
That’s a lot of effin’ trees and water. And what about all of the fossil fuel it takes to deliver all of that junkity junk?
Signing up is a no-brainer. Why didn’t I do this sooner???!

Thanks for the link love, Catherine! It’s mind blowing to me how much our natural resources are used up on junk mail…The more people know, the more they can take action.
