Closing the Books on 2008

Posted by Andrea on December 31st, 2008. Filed under: 2009, new year.

I’ve spent some time off from blogging this past week or so. And an eventful week it was. The past week included:
  • my mother winding up in the hospital after losing two liters of blood (imagine a two-liter soda bottle…full of blood)
  • my parents not coming to California from Chicago to visit us for the holidays due to combination of severe blood loss and terrible weather.  (This left me with a refrigerator full of traditional Lithuanian Christmas cuisine. Beet, bean and pickle salad, anyone? Mushrooms prepared 5 different ways? Anyone? Anyone?)
  • my son getting stomach flu and power booting chewed up carrots and Costco trail mix all over the carpet in his room (in the middle of the night, of course. A spatula works great, btw, for scraping up the chunks.)
  • a quick trip to Palm Springs (beautiful) where I was sick with a bad cold (not so beautiful), and where I received a deep tissue massage from a Bosnian war refugee in his 50′s who spent about 40% of the session massaging my bare buttocks and telling me I had good muscle tone (I have not worked out in 5 years! There is no muscle!!!)

You add that to the shitty economy and news about friends getting laid off I am happy to head-butt 2008, knee it in the nuts, and tell it to eff off.  (You see what has happened?  All of these woes have turned me into one BAD-ASS MO’ FO’!)

Happy New Year, chicas! I hope your 2009 treats you right and is full of love, financial security and fabulous shoes!
