Fab Finds Friday – Help Me Find a Fab Christmas Cocktail

Posted by Andrea on December 5th, 2008. Filed under: Cocktail Selection Committee, cocktails, holiday party.

I hereby convene the first annual meeting of the Christmas Cocktail Selection Committee of which you, my dear readers, are members. You will help me choose the signature cocktail I will be serving at the holiday gathering (of 100 people!!!) I am having at my home next weekend. Things to keep in mind when making your selection:

  • The drink must be festive and modern. I really would like something that harkens back to the Rat Pack era of the early fifties (Think: Martini glasses and Mambo music)
  • It should not be too heavy or have any overpowering ingredients that turn people off (I saw a recipe for Gingerbread Margaritas. How disgusting does that sound?!  And, although I think the presentation of a Peppermint Martini is cute I imagine it tastes a lot like drinking Scope.)
  • It should not be too complicated – no more than 3-5 ingredients
  • Jell-O shots (although a STAPLE at my parties in my younger days) are not an option
Here are some ideas…
  • White Cosmopolitan - White cranberry juice, Vodka, Cointreau
  • Appletini – Vodka, Green apple liquer (like Sour Apple Pucker), Clear apple juice
  • Jingle Juice - Orange juice, Vodka, Orange liquer, Lemon juice, Maraschino cherry juice
  • [Insert Your Recommendation Here.  Well, OK, actually include it in the comments section of this post.]
So, Distinguished Committee Member, you have a large responsiblity in front of you. Your vote will influence what is going to get people completely freakin’  shitfaced at my ever-so-elegant holiday cocktail party.
Instructions are as follows:
  • Vote on your favorite drink in the poll to the left of my post.
  • If you vote “other” or if you have additional suggestions for me, leave them in the comments section below.
I thank you for your time and consideration. Results will be posted next week.

    GINGER BLING
(can use double or margarita glasses)
Wet rim with apple slice or lime.
Dip into a sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger mixture.
Fill with ice, premium vodka, gold cinnamon schnapps, and ginger ale.
    Wah-lah!

    Good luck!

I vote for the White Cosmo – only three ingredients!
Use a curl of orange peel or wedge of orange or even just a couple cranberries and you have a very festive glass! Very rat pack!

PS Found you by surfing over from Mia’s site…

Thanks, Lina! The Ginger Bling sounds so yummy! I may just need to try that out tonight… :)

Kagey! So glad you made it over here from generalhysteria.blogspot.com (I’m taking this opportunity to plug Mia’s site). I think frozen cranberries would be great in this drink and maybe a sugared rim to make it look icy and snowy. Thanks for the suggestion!

    “Stress Relief” (California Cafe recipe)..

It’s basically a chocolate martini but they rim the martini glass with carmel and then dip into chunks of Heath bar – you end up kinda chewing on your glass, but damn their good and do what they say :)

I agree about the Cosmo being yummy (even though I was the one who added the Ginger Bling). What drew me to the “Bling” was that it wasn’t too gender specific. The guys might not want to be seen holding a pretty, frosted martini glass, you know? The Ginger Bling could be either in a double or margarita glass. Plus, it has ice… there’s something a little more masculine about ice.

Hey, Franny. I love that idea! What could be better that getting drunk of off candy? Wish you could be to join us. Any way you can fly in for the weekend?!
