Frugal Mom Tip – The New Deal

So, I took my own advice (dispensed on Friday) and made it to the mall this weekend. I did not negotiate any additional deals…but I don’t think I needed to. There are so many ridiculous sales out there right now that I had to remind myself I that it was NOT the day after Christmas. The sales promoted in every store window display made it feel like it was.

  • Everything already on sale at the Gap was an additional 25% off and then they told me that if I spend $75 or more, they’ll knock off another $15 from the bill.  The $15 off was only good at big people Gap, but my daughter made out like bandit at Baby Gap (tops for under $5! pants for under $10!).  Check out www.gap.com. Shop the sale merchandise and then type in SAVE25 when you checkout to get the additional 25% off.
  • Nordstrom was a madhouse but my boys got Quicksilver collared shirts for $15
  • Banana Republic was the craziest, and where I spent the most moo-lah. Sale items were an additional 20% and on top of that I got 25% more off because I have a Gap card.  I bought shirts for $10 that were originally $49 !  I bought a sweater, originally priced at $79 for $26!  In the end, I got about 75-80% off of the original price on almost all items. The craziest part is that the employee who was helping me heave my selections to the fitting room told me that “No one is buying anything. We have all of our Christmas stuff coming in and there’s no room for it.”  Translation: More sales on the way for me and you.
I spent so much time (and a substantial amount of money) in BR that I didn’t have any time (or money) left to look around the rest of the mall, so this is all I can report on.  But, it doesn’t take much to see that retailers are crapping their designer bottoms in fear of decreased customer spending. The state of the economy truly sucks, but when life gives you lemons, make a trip to the mall for some bargain hunting!  Isn’t that how the saying goes?
